My Go-To Beginner Bread Recipe

If you need a simple, fail-safe bread recipe, I’ve got you! And it doesn’t follow all the strict sourdough “rules”...if you have time to do some of the steps, great! But if not no worries! I’ll share how you can make this without tons of work.

If you need a few things to get started, HERE is my Amazon storefront where I have filled my list with the actual items I have in my kitchen for baking sourdough. Not just a bunch of things that might work, but items that I use myself, every time I bake.

And if you need a starter, you can purchase my champ of a starter, Rowena, HERE.

Ingredients

150g active sourdough starter
300g water
500g bread flour
12g salt

Directions

Whisk together starter and warm water. Add flour and salt and mix until a shaggy dough forms. Let rest for 1 hour.

If desired, perform 2-3 sets of stretch & folds. If you don’t have time, knead the dough well by hand for 3-5 minutes. Let rest until doubled. Dough should jiggle & be domed on top.

Turn out on a lightly floured surface and shape. You can bake now if desired, or place the dough upside down in a bowl or proofing basket with a well floured towel and place in the refrigerator for 12-48 hours.

Score dough; at least one 3-4 inch long, 1 inch deep expansion score. Bake at 400F for 20 minutes with the lid on and 30-40 minutes with the lid off. Internal temperature should be 205-208F. Let rest 1 hour minimum before slicing.

LATHER with butter and eat it all ;) jk…maybe?
